Preparation Instructions: The Day of Your Procedure

Get ready to begin feeling you best! Please review the instructions below to be prepared for the day of your procedure.

  • Wear loose fitting clothes that are comfortable
  • Make sure someone drives with you to your healthcare facility where your procedure is going to be performed.
  • Bring a list of your routine medications for the staff to check at the procedure location
  • Following check-in, you will be asked to change into a patient gown, and you may receive an intravenous injection to administer fluids and medications.

When it’s your turn to receive your treatment, you will be transferred to a special procedure room that is designed to perform this procedure. At that time, you will be asked to lie on a firm bed that allows your physician to see directly thru your body. Several medical devices will be used to monitor your vital signs like a blood pressure cuff, EKG, oxygen and possibly other devices.

Your doctor will use an imaging technique (fluoroscopy) to see the needle enter your body. Fluoroscopy allows a more precise, and safe placement of the needle into the center of the disc to be injected.

After the procedure, you will remain in the room for up to an hour for observation before being released. Following, checkout, your designated escort will need to be available to drive you home.
